Forum: etree Subject: NEW RATINGS SYSTEM FOR LMA

I'm aware that this topic made a brief appearance in the forum many months ago but I thought I'd reintroduce it since there has been so much discussion/complaints of late about "reviews". Would it ever be possible to expand the current system to a 10 point or star graduation to encourage a greater variety in reviews. For example now many find it hard to give a show they really liked anything less than a 5 even though they'd probably admit there are even greater shows out there. The same person may consider giving an 8 or 9 if it was an option thus reserving 10 more for the very best. Also maybe offering two seperate reviews, one for performance one for sound quality, may be helpfull. It is always a little disapointing to find a particularly well played concert given a very low mark by one because of minor sound issues.Of course I like many stream first to avoid downloads I'll later regret, but a revised rating system is something that I frequently hope for while deciding what to stream.

Hi folks, there are 2 pending feature requests to change the rating system, 1 of them has been in there since 2003. If you check, you will see them (link on the left of the LMA homepage - "The Internet Archive "to do" list and feature requests")

If you have some advice to change some of the system here, that's a good place to put it so it gets logged and not buried in the forum.

When the collection gets migrated to a petabox in a couple months, I think we'll get some engineer attention to address some of those.

Thanks Brad! I just went now to request *removing* the star rating system as a feature. (Overall, it's more worthless than useful IMO. Words are the valuable part of a review.)

Interesting. I usually do a make-shift version of that when I review. For example, 3.5 for performance & 5 for sound is an average of 4.25. This I would round down to a 4 on the current system.

I think being able to review sound and performance seperately is great idea... (the moderators are thinking...are YOU giving us the $$ for new software/labor!? Ha!)
